New Boston is a village in Scioto County, Ohio, United States. It is located at the confluence of the Ohio and Scioto rivers, approximately 10 miles (16 km) south of Portsmouth. The village has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. New Boston was founded in 1818 by a group of settlers from Virginia. The village grew rapidly in the 19th century, due to its location on the Ohio River and its proximity to the coal mines in southern Ohio. Today, New Boston is a small, quiet community with a population of just over 2,000 people.
