Shelby, North Carolina, is a small city located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, about 45 miles west of Charlotte. The city has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Shelby was founded in 1789 and is named after General Isaac Shelby, a Revolutionary War hero. The city has a rich history and heritage, and is home to several historic sites, including the Cleveland County Arts Council, the Earl Scruggs Center, and the Shelby City Park.
